Woman loses hand in cheese plant accident

Authorities say a woman lost her hand in a workplace accident at the DairiConcepts hard Italian cheese plant in Dalbo.

The Dalbo Fire Department was called to the plant at about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, according to Daldo Fire Chief Andy Swanson. The plant is located at 5115 Highway 47 in Dalbo.

“A woman had an accident,” Swanson said. Medical privacy laws prohibited Swanson from making further comment, he said.

Chief Deputy Bill Guenther of the Isanti County Sheriff’s Department said the woman apparently had her hand cut off.

Responding deputies helped pack a hand in ice, Guenther said.

The fire department responded with a medical rig and five responders, Swanson said. Crews from Allina Ambulance, the Isanti County Sheriff’s Department and a North Memorial air ambulance assisted the fire department at the scene.

The injured woman was airlifted to a hospital, Swanson said.
