The Minnesota high school volleyball playoffs get under way this week. In Section 7AAA, No. 8 seed Cambridge-Isanti (12-14) will host No. 9 Chisago Lakes (12-14) in the opening round on Wednesday, Oct. 26 (7 p.m.).
This is a rematch of last year’s opening playoff round which saw the Wildcats rally to defeat the Bluejackets in five games. The winner of Wednesday’s match will travel to top-seed Andover (23-5, ranked 6th) for the Friday, Oct. 28 quarterfinals (7 p.m.).
“I think we’ll do a lot of damage. If we stay committed with good passing to go with our good setting, then our hits can be strong. We’ll keep pushing and working really hard,” said senior co-captain Julia Walfoort after the team’s final regular-season match on Oct. 18.
Also in C-I’s half of the brackets will be No. 5 Grand Rapids (15-11) hosting No. 12 Princeton (2-19), with that winner going up against No. 4 Anoka (14-13) Friday night.
The Section 7AAA semifinals will be held Wednesday, Nov. 2 (7 p.m.) at the high surviving seeds, with the championship set for Saturday, Nov. 5 at Andover (7 p.m.). In the bottom brackets the highest seeds are No. 2 Duluth East, No. 3 Elk River and No. 6 North Branch.
