Owls to host Breast Cancer Awareness event Oct. 21

The Minnesota Owls invite the public to their Breast Cancer Awareness event when the junior hockey team hosts the Edina Lakers Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the David C. Johnson Isanti Co. Civic Arena in Isanti.

Join the Minnesota Owls in raising funds for local breast cancer patients. All the Owls players will be wearing pink hockey jerseys that will be part of a silent auction. All  winners will be announced at the conclusion of the game. Money raised will be donated to the Harbor Room which is a cancer resource center at the Cambridge Medical Center. It was established for people who are actively receiving care for all types of cancer.

On Oct. 14, the Owls defeated the Lakers 6-4. Sheldon Kihle had a dominating game with four goals (2 even-strength/1 power play /1 short-handed). Kihle netted two goals in the third period after Edina worked ahead 4-3. Taylor Bargar also scored in the third period, and Robert Erickson got the Owls’ second goal of the game early in the second period. In the Minnesota net, Brad Jerzewski was instrumental with several key saves to earn the win. Despite the Lakers putting four goals past him, one was on a penalty shot and the other was a short-handed break away.

The Owls moved into 2nd place in the MNJHL by downing the Dells Ducks 6-3 Oct. 15. Kihle maintained the hot stick with a hat trick, and Erickson finished with one goal and two assists. Kyle Johnson and Jess “Bubba” Engquist also came through with goals against the Ducks.

Kihle and Erickson  are now leading the MNJHL points race with 21 and 20 points, respectively. The Owls are tied with Rochester in 2nd place, trailing league-leader TC Northern Lights by just one point.

• Also this weekend, the Owls travel to Edina for Saturday night’s contest 7:30 p.m.), then they will take on the host Northern Lights on Sunday night (5:45 p.m.).
