The Cambridge-Isanti girls tennis season came to a close after the 7AA South Singles & Doubles tourney was hosted by St. Francis Oct. 13.
The Bluejackets’ Amanda Hanson & Nikki Hallstrom, seeded No. 3 in 7AA South Doubles, rallied for a victory in their first match to defeat St. Francis’ Polson & Ackman 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. Hanson & Hallstrom then fell to No. 6 Flesher & Kuebelbeck of Elk River 6-3, 6-4.
C-I’s other Doubles pairing of Madi Booth & Roselyn Mork dropped their opening match to No. 2 seed Shortly & Unger of Forest Lake 6-0, 6-0. In Singles, C-I’s Erika Schmieg was clipped in her opening match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 by St. Francis’ Borstner. Also in Singles, Bluejacket senior Kate Lentz had a three-set match go the way of Forest Lake’s Shortly 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to close out her high school career.
• The Oct. 17 Section 7AA Team final four tourney saw Forest Lake defeat Grand Rapids 5-2 and Elk River top Duluth East 4-3 in the semis. The Elks reached State for the sixth straight season by beating the Rangers 4-3 in the championship match.
