C-I Swim/Dive wins two meets
The Cambridge-Isanti girls swimming & diving squad closed out the regular season with two victories last week. The Bluejackets got their first Mississippi 8 win of the season with a 100-71 win over visiting Becker on “Seniors Night” Oct. 13.
The night began with Ashley Hiljus, Carly Dupre, Jocelyn Johnson and Katie McCann winning the 200 Medley Relay with a season-best 2:02.86. Brooke Olson followed with a win in the 200 Free (personal-best 2:14.2), with Aliina Knickerbocker and Laura Lund placeing 2nd and 3rd. Katie Beauto (2:33) and Hiljus (2:33) placed 1st and 2nd in the 200 IM, and McCann (26.4) and Mackenzie Boysen (28.6) swept the top two spots in the 50 Free.
Emily Stewart, Hannah Thiry and Maria Leibel swept the top spots in Diving, with Lauren Nolt and Johnson placing 2nd and 3rd in the 100 Butterfly. McCann (58.7) and Maria Vavra (1:02) had the top two swims in the 100 Free, then they teamed with Brooke Olson and Paige Thomas for a win in the 200 Free Relay.
More highlight swims for the Bluejackets were: Boysen (2nd, 6:16) and Lund (3rd, 6:17) in the 500 Free; Katie Beauto’s 1:08 swim in the 100 Backstroke; and Dupre’s personal-best 1:15.9 in the 100 Breaststroke.
On Oct. 11, the Bluejackets held off host Chisago Lakes 95-91. The team is now off until the Section 7AA prelims and finals in November.
