Duluth East sweeps Jackets in soccer playoffs

C-I senior Aaron Kordiak hustled to beat a Greyhound to the ball in the Oct. 13 section playoff game.

Both Duluth East teams were victorious over Cambridge-Isanti squads in the Oct. 13 Section 7AA soccer playoff openers in Duluth.

The afternoon game on Duluth’s north side saw the Greyhound boys shut out the Bluejackets 4-0. The Greyhounds controlled the tempo of the game throughout the first half, scoring all their goals in that stanza. The Bluejackets closed their season with a 7-7-1 overall record.

This Saturday, No. 3 seed Duluth East will next travel to No. 2 Andover who defeated St. Francis 4-2 in the opener. The other semifinal will be top-seed Blaine hosting No. 4 Coon Rapids (1-0 over Forest Lake).

• The Bluejacket girls also had their hands (and feet) full with a relentless Duluth East attack in a 9-0 loss at Duluth Public Stadium the evening of Oct. 13. The Greyhounds scored in the opening two minutes and went on to take a 5-0 lead by halftime. East kept rolling with four second-half goals.

On Saturday, No. 2 seed Duluth East will host No. 3 Coon Rapids (3-0 winner over St. Francis). The other Section 7AA semifinal game will be top-seed Blaine hosting No. 4 Andover (5-0 over Forest Lake).
