M-8 Finals for Bluejacket CC this Thursday

The Mississippi 8 cross country championships will be decided this Thursday, Oct. 13 on the slopes of Fox Hollow GC near Rogers. Middle school races begin the afternoon at 3:45 p.m., with the boys varsity starting at 4:25 p.m. and the girls varsity going at 4:55 p.m.

With temperatures expected in the low 60s°, look for fast times across the board.

“On the guys side, there will be some serious contention for the top spot. I still think that Monticello is the favored, but they are far from a given. Buffalo, Rogers, and St. Michael-Albertville all look to bring some great individuals and strong programs to the table,” projected C-I Coach Josh Lowman. “We could finish as high as 3rd and as low as 5th. This race will really come down to if a couple of guys pop a fast time.  If we are healthy come Thursday, we could certainly muddy the waters for this year’s conference meet.”

Coach Lowman continued, “On the girls side, things look to be a little clearer.  Monticello (ranked No. 1 in AA) should run away with the title. After them, look for strong teams from Big Lake, STMA, and Buffalo. I believe between the girls and guys conference you could see anywhere from two to four teams advancing to State. That is pretty high-quality competition!”

• In their last action Oct. 6, the Bluejacket boys placed 2nd with 63 points at the 11-team Litchfield Invite, clipped only by Orono (39). Trevor Galligan paced the squad with a 5th-place 17:48. Packing up behind him were Jordan Kalk (11th, 18:05), Alex Mendietta (13th, 18:07), James Edstrom (16th, 18:16), Anthony Mendietta (18th, 18:21), Kyle McCormick (21st, 18:28) and Sam Renier (33rd, 18:54).

The C-I girls finished 9th with 209 points as strong Class A teams Annandale (40) and Holdingford (91) placed 1st and 2nd. Paige Muehlhauser (31st, 17:38) and Erica Young (36th, 17:51) posted sub-18:00 runs. Racing behind them were Alex Nelson (40th, 18:16), Taylor Oullette (49th, 18:37), Maddie Oullette (53rd, 18:46), Amy Head (54th, 18:46) and Kyle Guimont (65th, 20:35).
