Both Jacket Soccer teams to face East in playoff opener

Both Cambridge-Isanti soccer squads drew Duluth East for the opening round of the Section 7AA tournaments which begin Thursday, Oct. 13 in Duluth.

The Bluejacket boys were seeded No. 6 for the 7AA playoffs, squaring off against the No. 3 seed Greyhounds at 4 p.m. on the Duluth East Middle School field. A victory would have C-I face either No. 2 Andover or No. 7 St. Francis at the high surviving seed site on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Cambridge-Isanti girls were seeded No. 7 for the 7AA brackets, traveling to the Duluth Public School Stadium to take on the No. 2 Greyhounds at 6 p.m. Thursday evening. A win there would have the Jackets face either No. 3 Coon Rapids or No. 6 St. Francis on Saturday at the higher seed’s home field.

Both Section 7AA championship games will take place Tuesday night, Oct. 18. Blaine is the top seed in both brackets.

• The Bluejacket boys wrapped up the regular season with a 6-0 home win over Princeton Oct. 8. Josh Samsa scored two goals for C-I, with solo goals netted by Josh Rouse, Aaron Kordiak, Eric Koplitz and Brandon Nelson. Dealing assists were Joel Hieserich, Skye Hunt-Schuft, Rouse and Kordiak.

On Oct. 6, St. Michael-Albertville clinched the Mississippi 8 title with a 3-1 win over the Bluejackets.

• St. Michael-Albertville swept the M-8 soccer titles this season when the Knight girls shut out the Bluejackets 2-0 in the Oct. 6 regular-season finale.
