With the girls tennis season already heading down the home stretch, Cambridge-Isanti brought home three medals from the Oct. 1 Mississippi 8 Singles & Doubles Tourney hosted in Monticello.
Kate Hanson won the No. 3 Singles consolation championship, defeating Duda of St. Michael 6-0, 6-0 and Nyholm of Buffalo 7-6, 6-4 in her last two matches. Beth Hanson, new varsity member at No. 4 Singles, also was the consolation champ when she worked past Robertson of Big Lake 6-0, 6-1 and Rogers’ Fitzpatrick 6-3, 6-2. Seniors Ashley Stahl & Katie Skalicky won 2nd-place medals at No. 4 Doubles by defeating Buffalo 6-2, 7-6 in their final match.
Kate Lentz was 4th at No. 2 Singles, dropping two close matches after defeating Big Lake’s Benker 6-1, 6-0 in the opener. Erika Schmieg had two close tie-break matches go the other way, including the consolation finals match. At No. 1 Doubles, Amanda Hanson & Nikki Hallstrom also dropped a tight match in their consolation finals. At No. 2 Doubles, Emily Baker & Danielle Page placed 4th.
On Sept. 29, the Jackets fell to visiting Becker 4-3 in their final M-8 dual match. Lentz prevailed at No. 2 Singles 6-1, 6-1. Also posting C-I victories were Hanson & Hallstrom (6-2, 6-2) and Baker & Page (6-4, 6-4) at No. 3 Doubles.
“Becker is a really good team, and we nearly pulled out a win. We played very well with new faces and players playing new positions,” noted C-I Coach Lee Orvik.

Prepping for next week’s playoffs, the Bluejackets defeated neighboring North Branch Oct. 4. Match scores:
• The Jackets wrap up the regular season at home against Chisago Lakes Oct. 6, then the 7AA South Team Subsections begin on Monday. Seeding takes place Sunday night.
