James Shand

James Shand, 70, of Isanti died unexpectedly at home on September 21, 2011. 

James Patrick Shand was born October 18, 1940 in Minneapolis to Archie and Helen (Harkins) Shand. He was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from DeLaSalle High School, Class of 1958. Jim married Muriel Bloom Feb. 1, 1964. They made their home in Minneapolis. In 1971 they moved to rural Isanti where they have since made their home. He served in the National Guard. Jim was a member of Pipe Fitters Local Union #539 and he worked for Honeywell for several years. Jim attended North Isanti Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, working on the computer and fixing cars. He always had a “project” he was working on to keep himself busy.

Jim is survived by his wife, Muriel; 3 children, Michael (Deborah) Shand of Glencoe, Jacquelyn Keocher of St. Croix Falls and her children, Tyler and friend Samantha, Nicholas and Christopher, Jennifer (Brian) Bergman of Cambridge and children Jake, Kristin and Ben; 2 sisters, Shirlee (Bill) Benson of Burnsville, Margaret Johnson of Eagan; 4 brothers, John (Beverly) Shand of Burnsville, Donald (Donna) Shand of Richfield, Bill Shand of Tampa Bay, Florida, Dan (Bonnie) Shand of Coon Rapids; and by many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 26, 2011 at North Isanti Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald Bergman officiating. Vocalists were Samantha Fluegel and Jeff Bonkoski. The pianist was Sandy Hanson. Interment was in North Isanti Baptist Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel.
