Bomber Football pounds Pine City, Tech spoils Jackets’ Homecoming

Braham (4-0) took control of the Great Polar Blue Conference with a 47-12 victory over defending champ Pine City Sept. 23, owning a 34-0 lead at halftime. QB Tyler Vaughan rushed for 201 yards and scored on runs of 1, 15 and 5 yards in the first half. Vaughan also passed for two touchdowns to Cory Ambrose, including a 7-yard play with 4 seconds left in the first half.

In the second half, Kevin Strelow answered PC’s first score with  20-yard TD sprint. Ambrose later hauled in a 12-yard TD catch. The Bombers out-gained the Dragons 394-197 in total yards.

St. Cloud Tech 27, Cambridge-Isanti 14

On the second play from scrimmage at the Sept. 23 Bluejacket Homecoming game, Jonah Poppen took in a slant pass and raced 89 yards before being caught at the Tech 2-yard line. Trent Chromy scored on a run the next play for a 7-0 lead, and the energy was high on the Bluejacket side. But the Tigers owned the second half– scoring on runs of 9, 1 and 8 yards– to remain undefeated on the season. The Jackets lost two fumbles in that half to aid SC Tech.

The Tigers’ Coulter picked off a bobbled pass and returned it 65 yards to tie the game at 7-7 in the first quarter. The Bluejackets went into the half with a 14-7 lead after finishing off an 80-yard drive with a 41-yard Cole Bakke scoring run. Bakke finished with 164 yards rushing for the Jackets, with Clayton Jennissen passing for 144 yards. C-I out-gained the Tigers 365-289 in total yards.
