First baby of District 911 school year

Rob Swanson of Education Cambridge-Isanti, presents gifts to Sarah, Mason and Cody Semmens.

Cambridge-Isanti teachers are again sponsoring a literacy project called “Books for Babies.” Each newborn at Cambridge Medical Center receives a new book from the teachers.  Education Cambridge-Isanti (the teachers’ professional organization) gives between 500-600 books annually to the babies.

Education Cambridge-Isanti also recognizes the first baby born on the first day of school. Mason Semmens, born Sept. 6, 2011, is the first baby born on the first day of school. Mason arrived at 9:03 a.m. weighed in at 6 lb., 5 oz. and is 19 inches long. Mason along with his parents Sarah and Cody live in Cambridge. They received a new book and a $25 gift certificate to Scout & Morgan Books in Cambridge. The book and gift certificate was presented to them by Education Cambridge-Isanti co-president Rob Swanson.

They encourage parents to read with their children daily beginning at birth. The link between language development in young children is directly related to the number of hours a child has been read to, talked to, and played with. So, to all parents: enjoy, love and read to your new baby.
