The Cambridge-Isanti girls swim & dive team had several strong outputs from its northern road trip to the annual Hibbing Invite on Sept. 17. The Bluejackets scored 415 points to take 3rd behind Hibbing (471) and Bemidji (437) among the nine teams competing.
The C-I Divers finished had all four entrants stake personal-best scores, led by Emily Stewart placing 1st and Hannah Thiry taking 2nd. Katie McCann also starred by placing 2nd in the 50 Freestyle (26.1) and 3rd in the 100 Free (58.6).
The Bluejacket Backstrokers also put up amazing numbers as Ashley Hiljus took 2nd (1:09), Sydney Johnson was 3rd (1:10) and Katie Beauto placed 4th (1:10). More top finishers for the Jackets were: Carly Dupre (4th in 100 Breaststroke), Brooke Olson (6th in 200 Free, 8th in 500), and the 3rd-place 200 Free Relay of Olson, Maria Vavra, Dupre and McCann.
• On Sept. 15, visiting St. Michael-Albertville defeated C-I 99-82 in the team’s Mississippi 8 opening dual. Stewart in Diving and McCann in the 50 Free both posted 1st places for C-I.
The Knights jumped out to an early 10-point lead with a top-three sweep in the 200. The Jackets answered with season-best swims from Paige Thomas (2nd, 2:33), Hiljus (3rd, 2:33) and Beauto (4th, 2:37) in the 200 IM. The Bluejackets also received season-best times from Laura Lund and Mackenzie Boysen in the 500 Free, and from Dupre, Thomas and Kelly Pasch in the Breaststroke.
