Bombers burst past Esko to improve to 2-0
Braham upped its 2011 record to 2-0 with an impressive 48-26 road win at Esko Sept. 9. The Bomber offense racked up 497 yards while the first-team defense only allowed six points.
The Eskomos stopped Braham on the opening possession, then they worked for the first score, a 7-yard run, but failed on the extra-point. Bomber senior Cory Ambrose then began another huge night with a 43-yard TD run to answer, and Kyle Ramthun booted the extra-point for the lead.
On Braham’s next possession, Ambrose bolted for a 30-yard scoring run. The Eskomos stalled on offense, but they got a 45-yard interception return for a TD to cut the Bomber lead to 14-12.
Braham wore down the first-half clock before Tyler Vaughan hit Ambrose for a 4-yard TD catch with 20 seconds remaining. The Bombers kept the tide turning by quickly stopping the Eskomos on the first possession of the second half, then Vaughan found Dylan Altendorf on a 14-yard hitch pattern to make it 27-12.
The Bombers ended up scoring five unanswered touchdowns to keep the Eskomos down. Ambrose hauled in a 30-yard reception from Vaughan. Just into the fourth quarter, Cameron Braund plunged in from the 1 for his first score of the season. Then Ambrose flew on a 74-yard run to produce a 48-12 advantage.
Ambrose finished with 197 yards on 11 carries and added 50 yards on 5 receptions. This was the second straight game he scored five touchdowns. Vaughan was 11-of-15 passing for 137 yards and the 3 touchdowns. Kevin Strelow added 44 yards rushing on 9 carries, plus he racked up 2 sacks and 9 tackles on defense. Braund finished with 10 tackles and also had a sack.
The Bombers next travel to Hinckley-Finlayson for the Great Polar Blue opener Sept. 16. The Jaguars are coming off a 7-6 loss to Two Harbors.
