Bluejacket CC hosts invite this Thursday

FALL SPORTS ROUND-UPS:  Cambridge-Isanti cross country hosts its annual Bluejacket Invite Thursday, Sept. 8. The meet begins with a free fun run for 2nd-6th graders at 4 p.m. Twelve teams join the Jackets for the races, including powers Andover, Forest Lake and Centennial.

In their first action, the C-I boys placed 2nd at the Aug. 29 Milaca Invite, with M-8 partner St. Michael-Albertville winning the meet. Placing in the top 20 were Jordan Kalk (9th, 18:26), Kyle McCormick (15th, 18:50) and Sam Renier (16th, 18:51).

The C-I girls placed 14th at the invite, led by Paige Muehlhauser, Maddie Oullette, Taylor Oullette and Alex Nelson.

C-I Girls Soccer splits

The Bluejackets defeated Becker 1-0 in overtime Aug. 30 to win their opening Mississippi 8 match. Then on Sept. 6, Section 7AA partner Forest Lake slipped past C-I 3-2.

It was incorrectly reported in last week’s Outlook that the Bluejackets lost to Chisago Lakes in their Aug. 25 opener; actually, C-I tied the Wildcats 1-1 as their overall record now sits at 1-2-1.

Warrior Soccer 2-0

Cambridge Christian won its second game of the season by downing Liberty Classical 4-0 Aug. 30. Grant Taylor posted the shutout in goal by stopping 14 shots. Justin Roble, Josh Roble, Jake Wold and Anders Boyum netted goals for the Warriors. David Fryc and Wold both added assists.

C-I Volleyball downs FL

The Bluejackets improved to 2-1 on Sept. 1 by defeating visiting section-partner Forest Lake: 25-20, 19-25, 25-19, 25-15. Julia Walfoort totaled 16 kills & 5 blocks, with Kylie Baas adding 8 kills & 28 assists. Leading in digs were Sydney Larkin (17), Korbyn Felde (16) and Katelyn Torgerson (14).

Braham Volleyball opens with two wins

The Bombers got off to a good start to the 2011 season by taking down host Royalton 3-2 in their Aug. 30 match. Braham then won its first Great River match by sweeping Hinckley-Finlayson on Sept. 6: 25-15, 25-21, 25-9.

Bluejacket Tennis takes 2-of-3 matches

On Aug. 30, the Cambridge-Isanti girls defeated Pine City 5-2.  Winning at Singles were Erika Schmieg (6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2) and  Kate Lentz (7-5, 3-6, 6-2).  Sweeping at Doubles were Amanda Hanson & Nikki Hallstrom (6-2, 6-4), Lizzie Holm & Karly Kirkhoff (4-6, 6-4, 6-3), and Ellie Osborne & Emily Baker (7-5, 6-2).

The Bluejackets won their fourth match of the season with a 4-3 road effort over rival Princeton. Kate Lentz (6-4, 6-3) and Kate Hanson (6-4, 6-1) prevailed at Singles. Amanda Hanson & Hallstrom remained undefeated (6-0) at first doubles by winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. No. 2 Doubles Holm & Kirkhoff pulled off another exciting three setter 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3.

On Sept. 6, the Bluejackets began the conference schedule with a 5-2 loss against visiting Buffalo.
