Douglas Atkins

Douglas Atkins, 78, of East Bethel passed away peacefully August 29, 2011 at his home. 

Douglas Neil Atkins was born Aug. 27, 1933 at the family home in Dyers Corner, rural Bethel, to Neil and Pearl (Pettygrove) Atkins.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Marlene; son, Kevin (Kelly) Atkins of Harris; three daughters, Karen (Randy) Olson of Oak Grove, Kayla (Steve) Rokosz of McDonough, Georgia, Kandi (Jacob) Chavie of St. Francis; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Lilah) Atkins, Richard (Karen) Atkins; one sister, Carol (Ed) Egan; and by many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held September 2, 2011 at the West Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. James McChesney officiating. The vocalists were The Atkins Sisters and Maureen Armstrong served as organist. The pallbearers were Randy Olson, Steve Rokosz, Jacob Chavie, David Windmeier, James Bostrom and Dan Almquist. The honorary pallbearers were the grandchildren. Interment was in Old Bethel Cemetery.  The St. Francis American Legion Post provided military honors. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel.
