Arnold Dean Longley was born Sept. 23, 1936 in Minneapolis to Rutherford and Bernice (Holter) Longley. He was raised in Minnetonka. Arnold married Carol Gross on April 19, 1958 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina. They made their first home in Hopkins and lived in the Twin Cities area until moving to Isanti in 1972. Arnold was a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Local Union 49. He had varied interests; cars, airplanes, model airplanes, tractors and his back hoe. Arnold was a “tinker” working with mechanical things and would always be inventing something.
His wife, Carol, preceded him in death on April 9, 2001. Arnold is survived by 10 children, Steven (Michelle) Longley of North Branch, Thomas Longley of Blaine, Douglas (Melissa) Longley of Cambridge, David Longley of Isanti, Christine Longley of Cambridge, Barbara (James) McCain of Webster, Wis., Matthew (Julie) Longley of Mesa, Ariz., Mark Longley of Cambridge, Patrick (Sherry) Longley of Cambridge, Joani (Tom) Leight of Hinckley; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held September 2, 2011 at the Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Rev. Bill Steinke officiating.
