Bombers fly past East Central in opener

Cory Ambrose got great blocking up the middle then sprinted past the Eagles on his 82-yard kick return to open the 2011 season.

Braham football got off to an electric start to the season when Cory Ambrose took the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown, and the Bombers’ team speed produced a 56-14 victory over visiting East Central Sept. 2.

Ambrose finished the evening with five touchdowns and 276 all-purpose yards against the Eagles. He slid in from the 2 for the Bombers’ second score, then he broke off a 59-yard run midway through the second quarter. Before the first half ended, he and QB Tyler Vaughan hooked up on a 35-yard pass play which made it 47-0 at the break.

Ambrose’s final TD came on a 42-yard in the third quarter. Vaughan also deked and sprinted for two running TDs (6 and 11 yards), and he found Dylan Altendorf on a sweet 23 yard scoring strike.

The Bomber defense forced three Eagle fumbles which led to scores. Zach Dahlman and Nick Hammond both had sacks in the game. Vaughan finished 7-of-9 passing for 131 yards.

Tyler Vaughan slipped by EC linebacker Cody Olsen for an 11-yard TD run which made it 27-0 just into the second quarter.
