Local man charged with first degree, criminal sexual conduct

An Isanti man has been charged with two counts of felony, criminal sexual conduct.

James Leo Stevenson, 39, of Isanti was charged in 10th Judicial District Court in Cambridge Aug. 24 for felony, 1st degree criminal sexual conduct, and felony, 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 22, Braham Police Chief Robert Knowles was dispatched to a reported rape that had occurred at a residence in Braham

Upon arrival, he met the victim who said she has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Stevenson.

The victim said around 11 p.m., she and Stevenson went to her bedroom to sleep, and Stevenson slept on the floor.

Around 6:30-7:30 a.m., they woke up and began to argue again. The victim stated Stevenson then raped her.

According to the criminal complaint, Stevenson admitted he and the victim argued, but indicated they engaged in consensual relations.

At the Aug. 24, hearing, Judge Schoffelman set bail for Stevenson at $50,000 without conditions or $25,000 with conditions.

His next court appearance was scheduled for Aug. 31.
