He was born Aug. 7, 1929 in Chaska and raised in South Minneapolis by his late parents John and Esther Meyer, with his late brother “Jack” and sister Joan. He played many sports at Bracket Park, while excelling at 3rd base.
After serving our country during the Korean War, Gene married his sole-mate Arlene. Soon after, Gene joined the Minneapolis Fire Department. They had two children; son Michael and daughter Linda. In 1971, like many other firefighters, Gene built a home in Bradford Township for him and his family.
After 26 years of service, Gene retired in 1984. He lost his wife in 1990 to cancer and never re-married. Since 2001, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Cindy moved in to help Gene care for the house and property. It was there that Gene had his happiest memories, so it shall be there that we who loved him, will say farewell in a Celebration of Life open house.
If you would like to share smiles and memories, please call Gene’s phone for date, time and directions (if needed).
