Fall 2011 high school sports opening events

C-I Girls Tennis opens Aug. 23

Cambridge-Isanti girls tennis got its season underway at the Aug. 23 St. Francis Quad, falling to Chisago Lakes 6-1 and 5-2 to the Saints. The Bluejackets’ next action will be the Saturday, Aug. 27 St. Francis Invite (9:30 a.m.) and at Pine City Tuesday, Aug. 30 (4:30 p.m.).

Bluejacket Pigskin Preview Aug. 24

Cambridge-Isanti Football invites the community to its “Bluejacket Pigskin Preview” on Wednesday evening, Aug. 24 at the CIHS Larson Field. A pulled pork dinner will begin serving at 5 p.m. ($5/ticket), then the Bluejackets will showcase a preview of plays starting at 6 p.m.

The Bluejackets next head to Eden Prairie Saturday, Aug. 27 for the 9 a.m. – noon preseason scrimmage against the Eagles, Minneapolis Washburn and Woodbury.

Bomber Football Hog Roast & Preview Aug. 25

Thursday night, Aug. 25, the Braham Bomber football team will be hosting its annual “Hog Roast and Preseason Preview.” The starting time will be at 5:50 p.m. next to the football field. Dinner will be served until 7 p.m. The players will then take the field to showcase their skills.

The Bombers will then work out at the Saturday, Aug. 27 scrimmage at Rush City (9 a.m. start) against the Eagles, Moose Lake-Willow River and Barnum.

C-I Girls Swim Alumni Meet Aug. 25

The Cambridge-Isanti girls swim & dive team’s annual Alumni Meet will be hosted at the CIHS pool on Thursday, Aug. 25 (6 p.m.). All JV/varsity swimmers and divers will have an opportunity to participate. A lane will be left open for any past alumni to stop in and compete.

The Bluejackets’ first meet of the season will then be the Sept. 1 Princeton Invite (5 p.m.).

Bluejacket Soccer kicks off Aug. 25-26

The Cambridge-Isanti girls soccer team opens its season Thursday, Aug. 25 at Chisago Lakes (5 p.m.). The Bluejackets next travel to St. Francis Saturday, Aug. 27 (11 a.m.) and to Becker Tuesday, Aug. 30 (5 p.m.) for the Mississippi 8 opener.

The C-I boys soccer squad opens at rival Princeton Friday, Aug. 26 (6 p.m.). The Bluejackets’ Mississippi 8 and home opener follows on Tuesday, Aug. 30 against Big Lake (5 p.m.).

Volleyball openers for C-I, Braham

Cambridge-Isanti volleyball jumps off with its home match on Thursday, Aug. 25 against North Branch (7 p.m.). More home non-conference matches in line for the Bluejackets are against Princeton Aug. 26 (7 p.m.) and against Coon Rapids Tuesday, Aug. 30 (7 p.m.).

The Braham volleyball team opens its season at Royalton on Tuesday, Aug. 30 (7 p.m.).

Busy start for CCS Warriors

Both the Cambridge Christian volleyball and soccer teams prepare for the season at the First Baptist Jamboree in Rosemount this Friday, Aug. 26. The teams then travel to Mt. Lake Christian on Saturday, Aug. 27 (volleyball at 12 p.m./soccer at 1 p.m.). Warrior volleyball next hosts Northlakes on Monday, Aug. 29.

Then on Tuesday, Aug. 30 both teams host Liberty Classical at 4:30 p.m. (volleyball matches at the Armed Forces Readiness Center/soccer matches at CCS).

Cross Country teams open at Milaca

Both the Braham and Cambridge-Isanti cross country teams get their seasons underway at the annual Milaca Invite on Monday, Aug. 29 (10 a.m.).
