Community Sports Notes
Bluejacket Pigskin Preview Aug. 24
Cambridge-Isanti Football invites the community to its “Bluejacket Pigskin Preview” on Wednesday evening, Aug. 24 at the CIHS Larson Field. A pulled pork dinner will begin serving at 5 p.m. ($5/ticket), then the Bluejackets will showcase a preview of plays starting at 6 p.m. There will be a photo time for parents that evening, as well.
Bomber Football Hog Roast & Preview Aug. 25
Thursday night, Aug. 25, the Braham Bomber football team will be hosting its annual “Hog Roast and Preseason Preview.” The starting time will be at 5:50 p.m. next to the football field. Dinner will be served until 7 p.m. The players will then take the field to showcase their skills. Anytime prior to or after the scrimmage, parents may take photos of their player. On the menu are pork sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, potato chips and juice/water. The idea of the hog roast is to promote the program and the team’s hard work, as well as to raise money for the extras the program needs. Freewill donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated. In case of rain, the hog roast will be moved to the BHS Commons Area.
Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge Aug. 25
The Cambridge and Isanti Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a free Boys and Girls Soccer Challenge for athletes ages 10-14 at the Isanti Soccer Complex on Thursday, Aug. 25. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. with the contest beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Jeff Landherr (763-689-2738) or Jeff Robocheck (612-518-9538).
C-I Cheerleader Car Washes
Former cheerleaders and the entire community are invited to support the 2011 Cambridge-Isanti High School Cheerleaders at their car washes the weekends of Aug. 27-28 and Sept. 17-18. The car washes will be hosted at Minnco Credit Union (Hwy. 95 & Birch Ave.), running from 1:30 – 5 p.m.
Funds from the school are limited, so proceeds will be used for additional warmer uniforms, lettering to match all uniforms, accessories, travel expenses, safety kits, and office supplies for about 40 cheerleaders. The cost to keep all cheerleaders suited up and ready soars each year. C-I Coach Angie Lindberg goes beyond the school year to provide cheer camp in the spring, practice all summer and fundraising opportunities so everyone can participate.
This year there are three teams– Varsity-traveling football, Varsity-all soccer home games, and Junior Varsity-B football home games. Assistants to the coach are all volunteers. We welcome Kathy Star as Assistant Coach, and we also look forward to a student assistant on an internship.
Thank you to the many parents for their help and support. We would greatly appreciate donations to curb the cheerleading costs. Thank you to all who came to the Pepsi stand at Wal-Mart and participated in other fundraisers. See you at the game! – Submitted by Loretta Thery
