C-I Diamond Club receives Twins grants

The Cambridge-Isanti Diamond Club was selected as recipients of two Minnesota Twins Community Fund grants to assist in the operation of the summer baseball program. The first grant received was to assist in league and tournament fees, specifically with the VFW team.  The second grant was a Youth Coaching grant, which helps to give college-age student-athletes involved in coaching the youth of communities across the state.  CIHS grad Dallas Nelson, current Isanti Redbird and junior pitcher on the Waldorf College baseball team, was the assistant for the 2011 VFW baseball team.  He was a paid assistant because of the grant received from the Twins Community Fund.

Bluejacket coach Todd Smrekar said of the grants, “We are fortunate to have the Twins’ commitment to the community and to baseball at all levels.  Their financial contributions have been a benefit to the Cambridge-Isanti area as well as many other communities across the state.”
