The building on 16th Ave. is empty, the local fire department did all they could, and marks from bullets remain on the walls. Many are wondering what is happening at River of Life Church. Due to failing trusses, River of Life Church building is going to be demolished with intent to build new at the same location. Estimates to repair the roof exceeded the value of the old building.
During the month of July, the building was emptied of its contents and the Cambridge Fire Department and Isanti County Sheriff’s Department have held valuable training in the building. The colored wax bullet marks remain on the walls from the sheriff’s department exercise and the fire department has performed a non-burn training. Other exercises may be scheduled in the building and a final training will conclude with the building burned.
In time, a new church will be built on the same location. Meanwhile, a new phase for River of Life begins this Sunday at 915 Main St. S. in the newly remodeled former Johnson Plumbing and Heating building just past Dairy Queen under the fire tower. The community is invited to River of Life’s Grand Opening on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 10:15 a.m.
