Heading back for Day 2 of the USTA Jr. Team Tennis Northern Section tournament July 27, the Cambridge-Isanti won two matches and finished as the consolation champions in the 18-U Intermediate division.
The Bluejackets qualified for the Gold brackets the prior day with solid tennis in the pool play portion of the Midwest regional tourney. C-I opened Wednesday’s action at the U of M’s Baseline Center with a 37-26 loss to eventual champ Sioux Falls Empire Swagg who will represent the section at the October USTA Nationals tourney in Arizona.
Cambridge-Isanti rallied in the consolation semifinals with a 29-24 victory over league-mate Coon Rapids. Tori Marlton (8-0), Nick Reiners (8-1) and the doubles set of Sam Renier & Marshall White (8-5) led the team in games won against the Cardinals.
In their final match of the season, the Bluejackets held off Woodbury Elite 28-26 for 5th place. Marlton (8-2) and Reiners (8-3) won at singles again, and Marlton teamed in mixed doubles with Mike White for an 8-5 win. Renier & Marshall White picked up 4 more games to help with the final difference.
