Anoka ends Rum River’s baseball season
The 5th-seed Anoka Bucs swept 12th-seed Rum River to win the best-of-three series and advance in the Region 1C amateur baseball playoffs. On Friday night, host Anoka prevailed 10-0 in 7 innings, then the Bucs won in Cambridge 11-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Along with Anoka, Princeton and Hinckley won their playoff series to reach the 1C final eight. Forest Lake and Quamba split their two games to force a Game 3 at Forest Lake Aug. 2.
• Isanti is the top seed in the region, with Big Lake, St. Francis and Mora also getting first-round byes to the 1C tourney which will be hosted in Hinckley this coming weekend. The Redbirds will open regions against Princeton at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at Hinckley’s Brennan Field. Games continue on Sunday.
The Redbirds stayed sharp for the tourney with victories in their past two games: 2-1 over Blaine July 29 and 3-2 over Mora July 31.
The Redbirds will host Coon Rapids for one final tune-up game Monday night, Aug. 1 (7:30 p.m.).
