Rum River opens regions at Anoka, Redbirds get bye

The Rum River amateur baseball squad takes on host Anoka Friday, July 29 (7:30 p.m.) in the opening game of the best-of-three series in the Region 1C tournament. That game will be held at Castle Field in Anoka. The 12th-seed Bandits (1-23) will then host the No. 5 seed Bucs (19-12) at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 31 at Cambridge City Park (next to Sandquist Park).

A third game, if needed, will be back at Anoka 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

More opening round series for Region 1C: No. 6 Forest Lake vs. No. 11 Quamba; No. 7 Hinckley vs. No. 10 Ham Lake;  and No. 8 Princeton vs. No. 9 Champlin.

Isanti (23-5) earned the No. 1 seed for the playoffs and gets a bye into next weekend’s Region 1C final eight tourney at Hinckley. Also getting byes in the first round are No. 2 Big Lake, No. 3 St. Francis and No. 4 Mora.

The Redbirds lost to Big Lake 20-13 in non-league action July 27 as several pitchers got in innings on the mound. Kyle Johnson ripped two homers and finished with 9 RBI for Isanti.

The Redbirds’ final tune-up for regions will be a July 29 home game against the Blaine Fusion (7:30 p.m.).
