AREA BASEBALL UPDATES
The Isanti Redbirds will once again host the Eastern Minny League All-Star Game at Redbird Field, with the fun day coming Sunday, July 17. Action gets underway with a 3:00 p.m. – Home Run Derby at 3 p.m., a 4:00 p.m. – Pulled Pork Dinner at 4 p.m. ($5/plate) and the All-Star Game at 4:30 p.m.
Representing the Redbirds this season will be Kyle Johnson, Joe Ramberg, Bud Heifort, Adam West, Brian Schultz and Packy Lind.
Isanti improved to 13-0 with a 11-0 and 5-2 double-header sweep at Quamba July 10. Wade Reichmann gave up just 1 hit and struck out 6 Cubs in the Game 1 shutout. Schultz, Ramberg and B. J. Samuelson all had 2 hits, with Schultz and Ramberg both scoring 2 runs.
In Game 2, Ramberg got the win with 0 runs allowed over 4 innings. Dallas Nelson (2 innings) and Heifort (1 inning/save) finished in relief. Matt Duong and Samuelson knocked out 2 hits each.

Bandits drop two to East Bethel
Rum River dropped a road double-header 6-4 and 6-0 at East Bethel July 8. In Game 1, Travis Earls went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and 3 RBI, scoring 2 runs. Mike Koplitz added 2 hits including a double.
On July 6, the Bandits fell to Coon Rapids 11-0. Kevin Auth delivered 3 hits for Rum River, and Jake Gagne coaxed a pair of walks.

Cambridge Legion team goes 3-1
The Cambridge Legion baseball team went 3-1 to wrap up the regular season with a 9-5 record. The NorthEnd League playoffs begin July 13 and continue July 14-17 at Princeton and St. Francis.
On July 5, the Post #290 squad beat Hinckley-Pine City 12-1 in 5 innings as Nick Jellison threw a complete game (10 strikeouts). Nick Johnson, Matt Ziebarth, Mike Henderscheid, and Reed Burns all had 3 hits a piece.
Thursday night saw Cambridge defeat North Branch 8-5 when Ryan Miller tossed a complete game with 10 Ks. Henderscheid had a homer and 3 RBI, and Ziebarth added 3 singles.
On July 8, Cambridge hammered league-leader Mora 17-6 when Burns picked up the win with 3.6 innings of relief (2 Ks). Garrett Hedberg led the offense with 4 hits, 4 runs and 3 RBI. Johnson laced 3 hits, and Miller finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI.
The team’s win streak was snapped July 11 when Milaca prevailed 8-4. Luke McCracken was tagged with the loss. Johnson and Austin Karpen both doubled against the Wolves.
Isanti VFW tops North Branch
The Isanti VFW baseball team defeated North Branch 15-13 July 6. Dustin Davis had 3 hits. Collecting 2 hits were Cody Skog, Jake Sylvester (2 RBI), Mitch Andres (1 RBI), Matt Ziebarth(3 RBI), and Jake Johnson. Ziebarth pitched 4.6 innings in relief to get the win.
On July 7, Forest Lake no-hit the Post #2735 squad in an 11-0 road win. Johnson took the loss on the mound. The VFW travels to Plymouth for a tourney this weekend.
