Hot action, weather at Oliver Softball Qualifier

Matt Sonneson of The Buzz out of the C-I Men’s League ripped a double against the Sunshine Depot of Elk River in Sunday’s action at the Ed Oliver Memorial Qualifier.

The annual Ed Oliver Memorial Men’s Slowpitch Softball National/State Qualifiers brought out good crowds to Sandquist Park despite the heat last weekend. In the DD/D finals, St. Paul VFW defeated the Long Ball Bat Company of Stacy 19-7 to earn a trip to the Sept. 1-5 ASA nationals in Topeka, KS.

In the EE tourney, it was Triple T’s of Pine City defeating Floyd’s of Winona 18-6 in the championship, earning a berth in the Sept. 1-5 national gathering in Springfield, MO. A women’s pool division was also held Saturday at Sandquist, with Andover Wheel & Frame taking 1st place.

Tony Ahlers of the Long Ball Bat Company received congrats for stroking a three-run homer in the DD championship against South St. Paul VFW Sunday afternoon.
