Lawrence William George
Lawrence was born Jan. 15, 1930 at Rainy Lake, Canada to parents Wilfred and Lucy (Kendall) George. He spent his younger years in Canada and then moved to Minneapolis when he was seven years old. Several years later he moved to Little Fork, Minn. and then back to Minneapolis in 1950.
Lawrence married Lucille Arlene Lindahl Jan. 12, 1952. Shortly after their marriage, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served for 2 years during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to Minneapolis and worked at Havir manufacturing for 10 years. Lawrence and Lucille had a cabin in Zimmerman for four years and later moved to Day in June of 1960. He owned and operated the Day Garage and worked at Metal Sales for many years and invented numerous gadgets. In 1990 they moved to their current home on Lewis Lake. Lawrence and Lucille spent many winters traveling the southern United States. He spent years training and showing his dogs, was in local and nationwide parades, and gave dog shows including the “Late Show with David Letterman.” He had generations of black and white border Collies that he trained over the years.
He was preceded death by his parents, brothers Wilfred, Vernon, Jack, and infant Leonard George.
Lawrence is survived by wife Lucille, beloved dog Tom Thumb, sons: Scott (Monica) of North Minneapolis, Blair (Sue) of Blaine, Duane “Kip” (Pat) of Elk River, Loren (Sue) of Corcoran, and Mark (Doni) of Blaine; grandchildren Marcia (Patrick) Hunsinger, Misty (David) Wallace, Mindi (Tim) Siercks, Jeremy George, Brian (Virginia) George, Tony George, Emily George, Jason (Beth) George, Andy George, Becky George, Jami George, and Sarah George; great-grandchildren Cole, Aaron, Stephanie, Kayla, Malachi, Analise, Kelsy, and Archer, brother Lloyd George of Baxter, and sister Jill Askland of Bloomington; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church in Ogilvie ((1030 Grand Street) with Rev. Bob DeYoung officiating. Visitation will be at Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home on Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery in Sunrise, Minn. at 2 p.m. following the service on Monday.
Casketbearers are Lawrence’s 12 grandchildren. Honors will be provided by the North Branch American Legion and VFW Posts. Arrangements were by the Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.
