Following a request from several Braham business owners, a two-hour parking restriction was approved to keep parking spots more open during business hours.
Greg Mason of the Braham Flea Market was spokesperson for the business group at the June 7 Braham Council meeting. He said the primary problem is apartment renters along West Central Drive would park vehicles for long stretches in front of businesses along that street, thereby inhibiting easier access for shoppers to those businesses. Requests to the vehicle owners to park elsewhere were sometimes met with rude reactions, he added.
Since renter parking is available in the back alley of those buildings, the council approved a two-hour parking limit from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The parking restriction will be enforced on both sides of W. Central Drive from Main St. to Tusen Tack, and on Main St. from W. Central Drive to Main Street Market.
In other action, the council:
• Approved a copier purchase for City Hall ($3,791 from Minnesota Copy Systems)
• Approved the following interim use permits for Summer 2011: Big D’s BBQ Wagon for 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sunday at various locations, running June-September; Save & Sane Fireworks for 4-9 p.m. weekdays and 12-9 p.m. weekends at 420 2nd St. SE, running June-July; Pick’M Farmer’s Market fro 3-7 p.m. Thursdays at Freedom Park, running June-October.
Next meeting: Tuesday, July 12 (7 p.m.)
