Bomber Baseball falls to Legacy 12-4

Legacy Christian 12, Braham 4

For the second time this season, Legacy Christian got the better of the Bombers when the Lions won the May 31 East subsection semifinal game at Pierz.

Nick Hammond singled in Christian Towery and Mike Strelow for a 2-0 Braham lead in the top of the first. But the Lions (13-3) got five walks and three hits off starter Strelow to bounce back with a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the inning.

A leadoff walk turned into another Legacy run in the bottom of the second. Braham pulled to within 7-4 in the third when Strelow singled, Hammond doubled to the left-center fence, and Adam Hendren’s grounder brought home Hammond. Lions’ starter Ryan Kopca and reliever Grand Anderson then held them in check the rest of the way.

“Legacy is a good team. (Batters) 1 to 9 in their lineup put the ball in play,” said Coach Leniz, whose team closes 2011 with a 13-5 mark. Hammond finished with three hits for Braham, and Towery had two.

Legacy faces East Central 8-7 over Hinckley) in the June 2 subsection finals back at Pierz. Defending State champ Eden Valley Watkins (17-2) and No. 2 Browerville (14-4) are alive in the West. The Section 5A final four June 6-9 at Faber Field in St. Cloud.
