Bomber Baseball seeded 3rd in playoffs, Jackets drop last M-8 games

Braham was seeded in the No. 3 slot in the East Subsection for this week’s Section 5A Baseball playoffs. The Bombers will host No. 6 Isle on Friday, May 27 (5:00 p.m.) in their tourney opener.

The Bombers defeated Isle 13-8 in the May 25 make-up game, taking the Great River Conference championship outright.

East Central finished strong to gain the No. 1 seed in the 5A East. Legacy Christian is No. 2, and Ogilvie is the No. 4 seed.

A Braham victory on May 27 would send them to the May 31 (7 p.m.) subsection semifinal game at Pierz. The 5A East subsection championship is scheduled for Thursday, June 2 (7 p.m.) back at Pierz.

Defending Class A champ Eden Valley-Watkins (15-2) is the top seed in the 5A West. Following the Eagles are No. 2 Browerville (12-4), No. 3 St. John’s Prep (12-4) and No. 4 Kimball (10-8).

Jacket Baseball 4th in M-8

Cambridge-Isanti dropped its final two Mississippi 8 games to fall into fourth place in the final standings. On May 20, a 5-0 Bluejacket lead disappeared in a 9-8 loss in eight innings at Rogers. Reed Burns (3 hits), Garrett Hedberg (2 hits) and Matt Ziebarth (2 hits) led the offense. On May 24, visiting Monticello defeated C-I 7-3. Nick Johnson had 2 hits for the Bluejackets.

In between, the Jackets defeated North Branch 5-2 May 23. Cole Bakke struck out 7 in the complete-game win. Mike Henderscheid went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.

• On May 25, the Bluejackets closed the regular season with a 4-3 night-game loss at Chisago Lakes as the Wildcats scored 3 runs in the fifth to put away the win. Trent Chromy took the loss while striking out 5 and allowing just 2 earned runs over five innings. Ryan Miller pitched a scoreless sixth. The Bluejackets managed just 5 hits against ‘Cat starter T. Rivard.
