Bomber Softball bounced in playoffs; Bluejackets beat SMA

The Bombers' Jen O'Neil doubled to drive in a run in the fourth, then she moved a runner into scoring position with a good at-bat in the sixth.

Braham’s season came to an end after a 4-3 loss to Ogilvie in the 5A Softball East Subsection quarterfinals May 20. The Lions will travel to East top-seed Isle in the May 24 semifinals after the Huskies held off Rush City 9-7 on Friday.

No. 2 seed Barnum (4-3 over PACT) and No. 3 McGregor (4-3 over East Central) advanced to the other East semifinal.

Ogilvie put up all 4 runs in the second inning before the Bombers began chipping away. In the fourth, Jen O’Neil doubled home Amanda Sybrant, and Emily Long singled in Sara Tomlinson to cut the lead in half. Dani Braund led off the sixth with a double, and she later scored on Long’s groundout to short.

Braham got two runners on in the top of the seventh, but two pop-ups ended that rally. Tomlinson did a good job shutting down the Lions from the third inning on, getting solid infield play behind her. The Bombers close the season with a 7-9 mark.

The Bluejackets stayed in the Mississippi 8 race by pounding the host Knights May 20. They put up 7 runs in the top of the fourth; five singles in the inning by Grace Smethers, Hannah Thiry, Amanda Hanson, Taylor Bowker, and Bailey Bakken highlighted the action.

Bailey Bakken (4-BI), Allie Hanson (3-BI) and Bowker (3-BI) all had 3 hits in the victory. The Bluejackets can claim a share of the M-8 championship with a win at home against Monticello May 23.
