C-I Baseball eliminated from M-8 race
Rogers scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Cambridge-Isanti 9-8 May 19. The loss, coupled with Buffalo defeating Big Lake 15-14 that same day, ended the Bluejackets’ drive for a conference title. St. Michael-Albertville also lost to Monticello 2-0 to allow the Bison to grab the championship.
The Bluejackets took a 5-0 lead after two innings at Rogers, but they fell behind to the Royals 7-5 when pitchers Ryan Miller and Nick Jellison combined to give up six runs in the fifth. C-I tied it at 8-8 with one run in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh, but the Hornets scored the game-winner off reliever Trent Chromy (4 hits, 3 K over 3.3 innings).
Reed Burns went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Jackets. Garrett Hedberg, Clayton Jennissen (double, triple, 2-BI) and Matt Ziebarth (2-BI) all had 2 hits.
The Jackets’ next action is May 23 at home vs. North Branch.
St. John’s Prep 4, Braham Baseball 2
The Bombers’ late-season swoon saw them drop their third straight game, ending the week with an 11-4 overall record. Braham’s final regular-season game is May 23 at Isle.
C-I Softball 4, Chisago Lakes 1
The Bluejackets upped their overall record to 14-4 with the May 19 road win.
C-I travels to St. Michael-Albertville May 20 and hosts Monticello May 23 in their continued quest for at least a share of the Mississippi 8 crown.
