Jacket Tennis falls to 7AA foes; playoffs next week
The Cambridge-Isanti boys tennis squad closes the regular season with matches against partners of Section 7AA. In their last two matches, the Bluejackets fell to both Forest Lake and Andover.
On May 11, defending 7AA champ Forest Lake knocked off C-I 5-2, sweeping the Singles matches. Jacket No. 1 Singles Nick Reiners pulled off four won games in a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Dusty Boyer– the 2nd-ranked player in Class AA. Also winning several games were Mike White at No. 3 (7-5, 6-2 loss) and Brandon Simon at No. 4 (6-4, 7-5 loss).
Josiah Sherry and Sam Renier at No. 1 Doubles were victorious in a wild 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 battle, taking the third-set tie-break 8-6. The Bluejackets’ other team point came at No. 2 Doubles were Matt Olson and Nate Henderson rallied 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Andover 4, C-I 3
The visiting Huskies left town with a win May 16 after taking 3-of-4 matches at Singles. Simon won 6-4, 6-2 for the Bluejackets, with both Reiners and White pushing in three sets.
Olson & Henderson rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 Doubles, the same score Calvin Cicha & Ryan Hoxmeier won with at No. 3.
7AA Subsections begin May 23
The Bluejackets have important matches with 7AA partners Chisago Lakes and North Branch this week before seeding for the South Team Subsections takes place Sunday night. Team matches will be held May 23 and 24, with South Individuals following May 26 at St. Francis.
