Third Annual Bird Walk at Anderson County Park

Saturday, May 14: The public is invited to join expert birders Joe Sausen and Tom Anderson from the local Wild River Audubon Chapter as they explore the park for spring migrant and returning resident birds from 8 a.m. to noon. Warblers, often referred to as the “butterflies of the bird world,” should be in the area as they move north. The park is located in the southeast corner of Isanti County on Co. Rd. 18, a quarter mile north of Co. Rd. 9 and two miles south of Co. Rd 5. The event is free and family-friendly. Call 651-462-2015 for reservations or with questions. Bring binoculars.

PFLAG meeting

Surplus Food Distribution

Tuesday, May 17: Cambridge Surplus Food Distribution. Registration and food distribution from 3 to 5:30 p.m. (or until food supply is depleted) at the Isanti County Fairgrounds, 3101 Hwy. 95 NE, Cambridge. Food is distributed to one person per address. Volunteers are needed anytime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to help with various tasks. Call 763-691-9035 for more info.

Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting

Wednesday, May 18: Parkinson’s Support Group will hold their regular monthly meeting from 10-11:30 a.m. at GracePointe Crossing (formerly Grandview), 1545 River Hills Parkway, Cambridge. Individuals with Parkinson’s, their families, friends, and caregivers are welcome to attend. Also, the Minnesota Walk for Parkinson’s Disease, with Bert and Gayle Blyleven, will be held on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Mt. Wednesday, May 18: The Isanti branch of the 7 County Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. at SAC’s On Third, 332 N.W. 3rd Ave., Cambridge.

Freezing Food for Later Use

Wednesday, May 18: Get your questions about freezing food answered at a “Freezing Food for Later Use” class to be held from 6-8 p.m., at Minnco Community Room, Cambridge. You will learn the why and how of blanching vegetables, pre-treating and freezing fruits, the right packaging materials to use and storage recommendations for frozen food. Free Community Dinner

Thursday, May 19: A free Community Dinner will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Use the downstairs entrance. Everyone is welcome to join for a time of fellowship and a meal. Call the church office at 763-444-9201 with questions.

Benefit for Kevin Smuder

Saturday, May 21: Two years ago, Kevin Smuder survived colon/rectal cancer. The cancer has returned, only this time to his lungs. A benefit will be held at noon that includes a spaghetti dinner, silent auction, and quilt raffle located at the Nowthen Town Hall/ Pavilion (Nowthen Blvd/Co. Rd. 5) in Nowthen.

Changing Gaits Spring Round-Up

Saturday, May 21: Come out to the Changing Gaits ranch in Brook Park. The days events include: Service by Cowboy Church at 4 p.m., followed by live music, pig roast, face painting, horse demos, bonfire and smores. Tickets: $10 adults 18 +, $5 for seniors and kids 17-4, children 3 and under are free. Vets and active military: Free. From Hwy. 107 go North to Hwy. 23 go East to Monument Road, go South to the ranch.

Tuesday, May 24: Would you like to perk up your cooking a bit? Come hear about delicious cooking tips using fresh herbs. Myrl Moran, co-owner (with her husband, Dan) of Melon Patch Herbs and long-time St. Paul Farmer’s Market vendor, will be at City Center Market from 5-5:45 p.m. to talk about growing, harvesting and using fresh herbs. You will be able to purchase herb plants, as well as Myrl’s recipe book, “Herbal Cookbook,” and taste a couple recipes as well. No fee, just show up. City Center Market, 122 N.
