Marriage debate is wedge politics

Dear Editor:

The marriage debate is wedge politics. We should be working on the real issues: economy, jobs, healthcare, housing for the homeless and other important issues that effect all Minnesota.

We can do better than waste time and money in trying to write discrimination into the Minnesota constitution. I thought the constitution is a “bill of rights,” not rights for some and discriminating to others. This proposed ban on same-sex marriage is only divisive and serves no good. Two people who are in love and in a committed relationship deserve the same respect and basic protection as every other loving couple.

I am a Vietnam vet, and I always say that “I served to preserve the rights of all people, not some or most, but all.” GLBT people should expect to live a life of  liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Marriage is about love, family, community and commitment.
