Alfred W. Smith, 86, formerly of Anoka, Minn. and Outing, Minn. passed away in Florence, Arizona on March 21, 2011.
He was born Dec. 7, 1924 in Jackson, Minn. He was honorably discharged after serving four years in the Merchant Marines, was employed 20+ years at Federal Cartridge in Anoka, ran a dairy farm for several years near St. Francis and then Nowthen, retired and moved to the lake in Outing for the summer and fall, and to Arizona for the winter and spring. He was very good at fixing things and making his grandkids happy and loved to fish and play games. The last few years were spent year round in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Lorrayne, son Dale (Trish) of Isanti, daughter Kathy (Tom) Gilbert of Florence, AZ., son Stephen (Joanie) of Stanchfield, 11 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by son David, parents William and Ethel, brothers Bill, Paul, Joe and Irvin and sisters Kathryn, Opal, Josephine and Marie.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Francis, Minn. Graveside service to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Coffee and cake after service.
