The Cambridge-Isanti boys tennis squad’s drive to a conference title hits a pivotal stage this Friday with the makeup battle at Becker.
Both the M-8 defending champ Bulldogs and Bluejackets currently are tied atop the standings with 4-0 records. The C-I boys held that position by knocking off visiting Monticello 6-1 on May 3 while Becker beat Rogers 6-1 that afternoon.
Nick Reiners, Marshall White, Mike White and Brandon Simon combined to take the Singles matches against the Magic on Tuesday. Josiah Sherry & Sam Renier at No. 1 Doubles, and Calvin Cicha & Ryan Hoxmeier at No. 3 worked for three-set wins.
“After dropping the second set, Josiah and Sam displayed mental strength and shifted the momentum their way. Their clear communication with each other and focus on effective shot placement helped them decisively control that third set,” noted C-I Coach Thea Lowman. “Calvin and Ryan pulled through in a nail-biter at No. 3 doubles. They entered their third-set tie-break with confidence, which they have been building all season.”
