Bomber Softball pays back Dragons 11-8

Braham avenged an earlier loss to Pine City and climbed in the Great River standings with an 11-8 road win April 29.

“We took advantage of some Pine City mistakes to take a 3-0 lead after the first inning and did not look back from there,” noted Bomber Coach Becky Swanson.

Liz Anderson went 2-for-5, reaching base all five at-bats, and scored three runs for the Bombers. Katie Nickles, Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow and Kayla Nickles all supplied big run-scoring hits to keep pressure on the Dragons. Emily Long also added 2 hits for the offense.

Sara Tomlinson got the win on the mound by pitching out of trouble in key situations. She finished with 4 strikeouts and allowed just 5 hits. She was aided by a couple big defensive plays by Sorenson-Giffrow at third base. Tomlinson also helped her cause at the plate by drawing 2 walks and scoring once.

“Sara battled all game and came through in the end,” said Coach Swanson.

• Saturday’s tourney at Deer River was cancelled due to the wet weather. The Bombers head north to take on GRC leader Isle May 9 in a rescheduled game.
