Roma Jane Steffen

Roma Jane Steffen, 75, of Braham, Minn. passed away April 27, 2011 at Fairview Lakes Hospital in Wyoming, Minn. 

Roma was born April 10, 1936 in Brookings County, South Dakota to Harold and Ruby Fulmer. She grew up on the family farm with her sisters. She attended country school and graduated High School with honors in 1954. She married William Steffen Sept. 14, 1954. From this union four children were born. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in West Concord, Minn. before buying River Bend Farm near Braham in 1962.

Roma worked hard for her entire life; 20 years at Dahlman’s in Braham, and 21 years for H&R Block.

She enjoyed gardening, bird-watching and cooking for loved ones. She created beautiful crocheted afghans, decorated cakes and had many collections (Avon, dishes, figurines). She loved going to auctions and bargain hunting at rummage sales.

Roma was generous with her time, affection and resources, hosting family gatherings for holidays, and attending parties with her family. Roma was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Joanne, husband William, and one son William Jay.

She is survived by her children Dee (David) Hancock, Terry Steffen, and Bruce Steffen; her grand-children Jessica Steffen, Brenda DuLance, Jay Anderson, Brian Steffen, Mark Steffen, Brent Steffen, Dakota Anderson, Brianne (Thomas) Keefe, Ryan Steffen, Brad Steffen, Chase Hancock, Skye Hancock, Harlee Hancock, Leah (Travis) Schultz, Josh Hancock, Caleb (Adonna) Hancock; her great-grandchildren Blaine DuLance, Alex DuLance, Cole DuLance, Mason Hancock, Cayli Hancock, Myrah Keefe, Finnigan and Annika Schultz, Sean Hancock, Ruby Ellingson, and Charles Keefe; and her sisters: Evalu (Mark) Kasper, and Maria (Dennis) Andersen.

A Memorial Service was held Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick with Rev. Lori Blake officiating. Music was provided by Ruth Grundyson. Inurnment will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date. Arrangements were by the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.
