36-hole day for Jacket boys
The Cambridge-Isanti boys golf team rolled up 36 holes on Monday, April 18, when they competed at both the Blaine TPC Invite and the conference match at Monticello.
The Bluejackets finished 5th with a 330 at the TPC, 14 strokes back of champion and section partner Forest Lake. Matt Swanson placed 6th overall with a 76. Ryan Lundeen carded an 81, Jordan Knutson an 86 and Reggie Martin finished at 87.
The team then headed west for the rescheduled M-8 meet at Monticello CC, tying Buffalo for 2nd with a 330. Rogers began their defense of the M-8 title with a red-hot 299.
Low rounds for C-I were Swanson (78), Lundeen (81), and Knutson (86).
“It was a long and draining day for the boys, but they handled it like men. They could have easily folded up, but they ground it out,” stated a proud Coach Mike Hennen. “Matt has really stepped his game up from last year. I have been playing him in the No.1 spot as a freshman, and he is holding his own with the top competition.”
• Swanson was 4th at 75, and Knutson placed 8th at 77 to lead the Bluejackets to a 3rd-place finish at the April 13 Monticello Invite. The Jackets turned in a solid 318– just 6 strokes back of runner-up Rogers.
The C-I girls had three members compete at the cold Becker Invite on April 14. Leah Shoenecker shot a season-low 102, Alyssa Rapp recorded a career-low 103, and Megan Hallstrom came in at 124. Monticello led the M-8 teams competing by finishing 4th out of the 15 squads.
