CCS student earns 1st in spelling bee

Cambridge Christian School’s Diether Modina took 1st place in the fifth and sixth grade division of the NLS Spelling Bee. The event took place last Friday evening at St. John Lutheran School in Elk River. Participating schools included Cambridge Christian; Crown Christian School, Crown; Prince of Peace Academy, Mounds View; St. John, Elk River; St. John’s, Corcoran; and Trinity, Saint Francis.

Claire Christenson, Emma Pankan, Katie Bushway and Wyatt Van Hatten represented Cambridge Christian School in the third and fourth grade competition. Bennett Christenson, Westen Olson, and Olivia Petersen joined Diether in the fifth and sixth grade division.

Each school held an internal spelling bee to select its representatives for the final competition. Students took both written and oral tests. Each division had at least 24 finalists competing against each other in an oral competition.
