Junior Cole Bakke allowed struck out 3 and walked just 1 when Cambridge-Isanti Baseball won its season-opener 6-3 over section-partner Grand Rapids Saturday, April 9. The Thunderhawks got to Bakke for two runs in the first, then the tough right-hander bore down the next six innings, helped by steady defensive play from the Bluejackets.
“I was a little rusty in the first inning, I guess. After that inning I seemed to find it a little bit. The curve ball started to move a little more, and the fastball was hopping a little bit,” said Bakke.
Junior Ryan Miller came through with a two-out, bases-clearing double in the bottom of the first as C-I answered right back to take a 5-2 lead. Senior Mike Henderscheid smoked a solo homer to left in the fourth inning for a Bluejacket insurance run.
