Lakes, stream monitor workshop March 28 in Mora

Lake and river homeowners, lake associations, and anyone with an interest in Minnesota’s lakes and fisheries are invited to join the PICKM Water Quality Team on Monday, March 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kanabec County Public Service Building in Mora. (0.6 mi. east of Hwy. 65 in Mora on south side of Hwy. 23)

Paul Radomski, a research scientist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will give a presentation on Enhancing Shoreland Conservation: Protecting Water Quality and Restoring Habitat. Fish and wildlife habitat issues within the lakeshore will be discussed. This presentation will provide information to lakeshore property owners on how they can, together with their local government, protect water quality and lakeshore habitat.

The presentation will cover: recent research on consequences of shoreline alteration on fish and wildlife; how to use the “sensitive lakeshore designation” to improve lakeshore conservation; and look at options and recent innovations that can be used to protect shorelands.

PICKM workshops will also discuss the possibility of the formation of a regional COLA (Coalition of Lake Associations) for our area to determine if there is an interest and what they would need to do.

There is no charge for the event. This program is sponsored by the PICKM Water Quality Team, which serves the counties of the counties Pine, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec and Mille Lacs.
