If you’re looking to make new friends, while making a difference in the community, then Cambridge-Isanti Women of Today is the organization you are looking for.

C-I Women of Today is a volunteer, community service organization serving the Cambridge-Isanti area. It’s part of the District 12 Region, which belongs to the Minnesota Women of Today, which belongs to the U.S. Women of Today.

Members of the Cambridge-Isanti Women of Today, including Carla West, far left, have a good time at one of the state conventions.

The Cambridge charter of Women of Today began in 1983, and for the past three years it’s been the C-I Women of Today.

Carla West has been a member of the C-I Women of Today for four to five years.
“I had just moved to the area and wanted to get to know people in the area and enjoy volunteering,” West said. “I thought it was an interesting group and enjoy giving back to the community.”

C-I Women of Today is currently embarking on a membership drive, searching for new members, as well as younger members, who are 18 and older.

West explained the organization focuses on community service, helps out several local organizations.
“I really enjoy the people in the Women of Today organization; I enjoy the activities and the things we do, but I really enjoy the people,” West said. “We are a womens’ group, so we focus on efforts that help women and children, which is a good thing.”

Roxie Karelis, executive director of The Refuge, has seen the organization makes.

“Our shelter has been the recipient of the generosity of giving back to the community that the Cambridge-Isanti Women of Today exemplify,” Karelis said. “Two years ago they approached us wanting to know what they could do to help women and children fleeing abuse and help they have. These amazing, fun women have supplied the shelter with paper products, made welcome baskets for moms and kids when they arrive at the shelter, decorated the play room at the shelter, have done fundraisers raising money for the shelter and so much more. We are very thankful there are women like these ladies in our community.”

The next meeting of the C-I Women of Today will be held Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at Lake State Federal Credit Union in Isanti. The organization meets the first Tuesday of each month. For more information, you can call 763-354-6124 or find the Cambridge-Isanti Women of Today on Facebook.
