Three Bluejacket Wrestlers alive in championship bracket
Senior Cody Glines, junior Clayton Jennissen and sophomore Travis Holt are alive in their respective championship brackets at the 2011 State Class AAA Wrestling Tourney which opened March 4 at the Xcel Center. Four more Bluejackets also made Day 2 action on Saturday by staying alive for consolation matches.
Glines, wrestling at 152, won his opening match 10-6 then posted a 12-7 decision in the quarterfinal. He faces Rosemount’s Jackson in the semifinals. Jennissen opened the 171 brackets with a 3-1 win before taking a 9-5 decision in the quarters; he faces Maple Grove’s Rekurski in the semis. Holt, at 135, rolled to a 15-0 tech fall followed by a 3-2 win in the quarters. Holt get Osseo’s Hannan in his semifinal match.
Consolation Wrestlers: Ty Tischer pinned his first 125 foe before dropping a 13-3 major to Apple Valley’s Dakota Trom. Cody Skog rallied for a 10-6 win in his opening 140 match before Hastings’ LaChance prevailed 15-5 in the quarters. At 145, Adam Kelling dropped his first match 6-0 to Woiwor of Apple Valley, but he stayed alive when Woiwor won his quarterfinals match. Derek Swanson at 189 held for an 8-3 decision in his opener before Lakeville South’s Peterson got past him 3-1.
C-I’s eighth wrestler at State, Mark Volker, lost by fall in his 160 opener to White Bear Lake’s Longendyke, but Volker’s season was ended when the Bear lost in the quarters.
Consolation quarters begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Xcel, with championship semifinal matches following at 11:15 a.m. 3rd & 5th place matches begin at 5 p.m., and the State championship battles begin at 7:30 p.m.
