The next time you receive a mailing that promises to save you money on your prescription medications, take time to read it over.

That’s the message the Isanti County Board had for residents after approving a new prescription discount program in the regular meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Isanti County will enter into a partnership with TWRx, LLC, a pharmacy benefit management company based in Minnesota and North Dakota, to provide discounts intended to help uninsured or under-insured residents.

In a report to the Board, Community Social Services Director Penny Messer said in her research she found Hubbard County had already partnered with the company and was reporting favorable results.

“I think it is a good program,” said Messer. “And in comparison to the other programs, it’s really keeping the business local as well, so that people will continue to get their medications here right in Isanti County.”

Within the next few weeks all Isanti County residents will be mailed a discount card, which can be used instantly without an enrollment process. The card, when presented with a prescription, should save users between 10 and 20 percent on brand name medications and 20 to 70 percent on generics. According to the TWRx Web Site, the average savings for users is 39 percent per script.

Messer said all pharmacies in Isanti County have agreed to participate in the program, and it can also be used at some pharmacies in neighboring counties.

Residents who do not receive a card in the mail may pick them up at the Government Center or print them off from www.mytwrxcare.com

In other action, the Board:

 • Approved the $33,000 purchase of a new server and software for the Auditor-Treasurer department. The equipment, which is used for printing checks and general bookkeeping, will be paid for out of the Information Technology budget.

 • Agreed to accept several grants on behalf of the Mystic Riders Snowmobile Club to be used for the purchase of new trail grooming equipment, a portable bridge and the construction of an enclosed trail shelter. Isanti County has long served as fiscal agent for the club, which maintains about 150 miles of trails in the area.

 • Approved the $22,000 purchase of a new squad car for the Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle will be the last Ford Crown Victoria for the department, as Ford has announced it will stop production of the model in 2011.
