Cambridge-Isanti seeded 3rd for 7AAAA tourney

Girls Basketball: Bluejacket will host St. Francis March 3

Cambridge-Isanti was seeded in the No. 3 slot for next week’s Section 7AAAA girls basketball tournament. The Bluejackets (17-8) host St. Francis (8-17) in the quarterfinals held March 3 at 7 p.m.

Those two teams squared off in last year’s Section 7AAAA championship. This season, the Bluejackets defeated the Saints 67-52 back on Dec. 10.

Duluth East (17-7) was seeded No. 1, and Blaine (13-12) was seeded No. 3. The semifinals will be March 7 at North Branch (6/8 p.m.), with the championship game March 11 back in North Branch.

Jacket girls drop two M-8 games

The Cambridge-Isanti girls closed the Mississippi 8 schedule with two losses, leaving them in third place with a 12-4 conference mark this season.

On Feb. 17, St. Michael-Albertville worked past the Jackets 68-57. Whitney Olson hit 9 three-pointers to lead C-I with 29 points. Natalie Larson scored 10 points to go with 10 rebounds, and Deandra Vavra had 8 points and 7 assists. Amanda Olson added 6 points and 8 rebounds.

The Bluejackets then fell to visiting Rogers 81-70 in overtime Feb. 22, with the Royals gaining a 16-5 edge in the extra period. Vavra and Olson both scored 21, with Larson adding 13 points.

In between those games, C-I knocked off section-partner Anoka 83-59 on Saturday. Vavra tripled up with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists. Olson scored 29, hitting 6 more ‘3s.’ Larson added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
